Importing Files
Import existing CAD files and modify them with natural language.
Supported Formats
| Format | Extensions | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| STEP | .step, .stp | Industry standard — recommended |
| IGES | .iges, .igs | Legacy CAD exchange |
| BREP | .brep | OpenCASCADE native format |
| DXF | .dxf | 2D drawings to extrude into 3D |
Recommendation
Use STEP whenever possible. It preserves the most geometry information and has the best compatibility.
How to Import
Click Import or drag and drop
Click the Import button in the toolbar, or drag a file directly onto the 3D viewer.
Wait for processing
The file uploads and processes. This takes a few seconds depending on complexity.
Start modifying
Once imported, modify the part with natural language just like any other part.
DXF Files
DXF files are 2D drawings. PartWork AI extrudes them into 3D parts.
Specify Height
When importing a DXF, you'll be asked for extrusion height and units.
Closed Profiles Required
DXF files must contain closed shapes. Open or overlapping geometry causes errors.
Warning
Make sure your DXF contains closed profiles before importing. Open paths cannot be extruded.
File Size Limits
Maximum file size is 50MB. Large or complex files may take longer to process.
